Moss plays an important ecological role. It retains moisture, stabilizes soil, reduces erosion, and creates microhabitats for beneficial insects and microorganisms. However, in certain environments moss can form dense mats that limit airflow at the soil surface, trap excess moisture against shallow roots, or outcompete seedlings trying to establish. Selective thinning of mature moss colonies can improve light penetration, encourage biodiversity, and stimulate fresh moss regrowth.

Moss regenerates through fragmentation and spores. When harvested responsibly — by taking only a portion of a healthy colony and leaving the base layer intact — it continues to spread and replenish. Our approach follows this principle. We never strip an area bare. We rotate harvest zones seasonally and maintain strong donor patches to ensure long-term ecological balance.
